Dental Exam and
Check-Up St. Marys, Ontario

Time for a Dental Exam or Check-up?

Appointments available for check-ups, exams, and consultations.

Our team of professionals offers Dental Exams and Check Ups in St. Marys, Ontario for patients of all ages. Dental Exams and Check Ups are extremely important to your oral and overall health as these appointments allow our dentists to make sure everything looks as it should. Regular visits to the dentist will provide an opportunity for our team to diagnose and treat any decay or abnormalities that may require more invasive procedures if left untreated.

Some of the issues that can be detected during a dental exam include periodontal disease, tooth decay, gum diseases, oral cancer, alignment issues, bruxism, infection, and much more. As you can imagine, these issues don’t simply just go away on their own and will require treatment in order to return your mouth back to a healthy state. Identifying these issues early will end up saving you costly dental procedures in the future.

Our dentists at Queen Street Dentistry take their time with each of our patients to make sure they receive a thorough exam and address any issues that may exist. During exams, we also encourage our patients to ask questions or let us know of any issues they may be having with their jaw alignment or oral health.

If you’re due for a check up or dental exam, feel free to give us a call at Queen Street Dentistry. We’d love to meet you!

Types of Dental Exams at Queen Street Dentistry

New Patient Exam

All New Patients will receive a New Patient Exam. This allows our patients to meet our dentists and have their oral health assessed by our team of professionals. X-rays and a cleaning will also be done at this appointment. Welcome to Queen Street Dentistry!

Recall Exam

All of our patients are on a ‘Recall’ interval. This means they are required to come back at regular intervals for their dental exam and cleaning, usually every 6-months. X-Rays are typically taken once per year, but it will depend on the individual patient and circumstance.

Specific Exam

Specific exams are completed when our patients come in with a ‘specific’ issue such as a toothache or bleeding gums. Our dentist will take the time to assess the issue and provide treatment options for the patient. If possible, treatment will be done that same day.

Emergency Exam

Dental Emergency exams are completed when patients (new or existing patients) come into the office with excessive pain, bleeding, or dental trauma. Our team makes Dental Emergencies a priority and will do whatever we can to make sure the patient is relieved of pain and taken care of as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why are regular dental checkups important?
Regular dental checkups allow your dental team to monitor changes in your teeth, gums, bite, and overall oral health. They can help identify concerns such as cavities, gum disease, cracked or worn teeth, infections, and other problems before they become more advanced.
2. What happens during a routine dental exam?
During a routine dental exam, your dentist will assess your teeth, gums, bite, and other areas of your mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, damage, or other oral health concerns. Your medical and dental history may also be reviewed, and X-rays may be recommended when clinically appropriate.
3. How often should I have a dental exam?
The appropriate frequency of dental exams varies from person to person. Your dentist will recommend a schedule based on factors such as your oral health, dental history, gum health, cavity risk, and any ongoing treatment needs.
4. Will I need X-rays at every dental checkup?
Not necessarily. Dental X-rays are recommended based on clinical need rather than automatically at every visit. Your dentist considers factors such as your age, dental history, current symptoms, cavity risk, and the time since previous X-rays before recommending new images.
5. What are the signs that I may have a cavity?
A cavity may cause tooth sensitivity, discomfort when eating or drinking something sweet, hot, or cold, pain when biting, or a visible hole or dark area on a tooth. Cavities can also develop without noticeable symptoms, which is one reason regular dental exams are important.
